WORLD SERIES GAME III PREVIEW

Andy Pettitte/Cole Hamels
 WORLD SERIES GAME 3
SERIES TIED 1-1
10/31 7:57 FIRST PITCH
NYY- ANDY PETTITTE
PHI- COLE HAMELS
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Derek Jeter (right) almost seems to delight in the way this World Series is playing out. Forget all those power hitters. Pitching is priceless."I told you," he said with a smile.Without any offense from Alex Rodriguez, Jeter and the New York Yankees totaled four runs in the first two games and still eked out a split at home. Now, the Series shifts to Philadelphia for Game 3 on Saturday night, with Cole Hamels set to start for the Phillies against fellow lefty Andy Pettitte.Three wins from a second consecutive championship, Philadelphia could wrap it up at home. Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins and crew can't wait to play before their fervent fans in the second-ever World Series game on Halloween."We're back in our own ballpark. It's going to be hostile. It's going to be loud," Shane Victorino said.Nothing new, according to the Yankees."Because of the team we are, we get booed and yelled at everywhere we go," Johnny Damon said. "Even coming off the train."Citizens Bank Park is approximately 108 miles from Yankee Stadium, with all those New Jersey Turnpike tolls in between. Both teams zipped down on the train in a little more than an hour -- the Phillies after their 3-1 loss Thursday night, the Yankees on Friday afternoon.During batting practice, as one slugger after another sent balls ricocheting around Philadelphia's cozy ballpark, it was hard to fathom how Cliff Lee and A.J. Burnett looked so dominant on the mound the previous two nights."I can't say enough about our advanced scouting and our reports. They're right on," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said.Sooner or later, though, some of these big bats are bound to break loose.Mark Teixeira's only hit in seven at-bats is a solo homer. Phillies bopper Ryan Howard is hitting .222 with six strikeouts. A monster in the playoffs, Rodriguez is 0 for 8 in his first World Series, also with six strikeouts."I feel pretty good. I mean, it's only been eight at-bats, but I felt like I've had a lot of good swings," he said. "I fouled a couple of pitches off that I should have put in play."A-Rod was mostly an October bust before this year, but Jeter insisted he's not worried."No, the guy's been killing the ball for three weeks," Jeter said. "It's kind of hard to sit here and overanalyze things. If pitchers make their pitches, they're going to get you out."Damon said the rest of the Yankees need to pick up the slack for Rodriguez.
But with offense at a premium, they'll be missing a dangerous bat during the next three games.Because World Series rules do not allow a designated hitter in the National League park, New York must decide whether to put Hideki Matsui (Left) in the outfield or on the bench."As productive as he's been for us this year, you don't want to lose his bat," manager Joe Girardi said. Matsui hit a go-ahead homer off Pedro Martinez in Game 2 and it might seem tempting to start him in right field in place of slumping Nick Swisher. Slowed by knee surgeries, however, Matsui hasn't played the outfield since June 15, 2008, at Houston. He appeared in right field only three times that year, all in April. Matsui was stationed in right during batting practice and jogged after a few fungos, but it was hardly an intense workout."I don't see any major issues," he said through a translator. "At this point, the way I feel, I think it should be fine. I mean, again, you really have to try and then see how it feels."Speaking before his team took the field, Girardi didn't disclose his plans."I'm going to look at some things today, watch a little bit, see how he moves around and see if we think that it's physically possible for him to do it," he said. "If we can't do it, we'll use him in a role to pinch hit when we feel that he can be most valuable to us. It might be a situation where you might think about a double switch at high time, but you don't want to lose his bat."Manuel, who acknowledged that several Phillies are fighting flu symptoms, did announce a decision. He picked Joe Blanton to start Game 4 rather than Lee on short rest or rookie J.A. Happ, who will stay in the bullpen. Lee tossed a six-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks for a 6-1 victory in the opener at Yankee Stadium, improving to 3-0 with a 0.54 ERA in four starts this postseason. But he's never pitched on three days' rest.First, the Phillies turn to Hamels, last year's World Series MVP against Tampa Bay.A sure thing last October, the 25-year-old Hamels has struggled this season. He went 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in three NL playoff starts."It's been a growing process," Hamels said. "It's just coming back and delivering, and I still have an opportunity to help this team out and win some big games."Saturday will be a big one, indeed.
Nine of the last 10 teams to win Game 3 when the World Series was tied 1-all went on to take the title.Hamels said that when he was growing up he emulated Pettitte, who set a major league record with his 16th postseason win when he beat the Los Angeles Angels to clinch the AL championship series. The 37-year-old Pettitte is 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA this postseason and 3-4 with a 3.82 ERA in 11 World Series starts."He doesn't seem fazed by anything," Jeter said. "He's pitched in every kind of big game you can think of."Indeed, Pettitte sounded perfectly relaxed one day before his outing, detailing how upset his daughter is that he won't be home for Halloween."My wife is flying up here to be with me, but my kids, they want to be home for Halloween and go around trick-or-treating and do the things that they normally do," he said. "I'm not going to mess with that with them if that's what they want to do."The Yankees, of course, had some World Series luck on Halloween in 2001, when Jeter's 10th-inning homer capped a Game 4 comeback against Arizona."I remember that," Pettitte said. "That was special."

KEYS TO THE GAME
  • How will the Yankees manage the game in the NL situation
  • Does Girardi sit Matsui or play Hairston?
  • Which pitcher will show up
  • Who busts out of the slump first, Howard or Rodriguez
  • How will the Yankees if needed use Mariano Rivera?
 The Picks
Ed Tierney:
The Yankees bats come alive while Pettitte stifles the Phillies Lefty loaded lineup.
A-Rod has a key hit early and late in the game as he gets off the "schnide".
Yankees work out the bullpen kinks too
NYY: 7 PHI: 2

Matt Cole:
The Yankees Need Offense and today they get it. The O awakes from a drought to win the game.
NYY: 7 PHI: 3

Robert Patrick Luckett
Yankees get to Hamels early. Pettitte gives another solid performance
very similar to his game 6 ALCS start
NYY:5 PHI:3

Knicks/Islanders Recap

ISLANDERS: Coming off their biggest win of the short season so far over the Rangers the Isles parlayed that with an overtime win of the Capitals. The Islanders woul trail 1-0 and 3-2 . Danish born Frans Neilson would have 2 goals, while Kyle Okposo and Mark Streit would each tally a one as well with Streit's being the game winner :53 seconds into the sudden death session. Assisting on the goal would be John Taveres and Radek Martinek. Once again Dwayne Roloson would "stand on his head" recording 37 saves on 40 shots to get the win, his 2nd in the last 2 games and improving his record to 3-1-3. He played beautifully in the 3rd period. The Isles improves to 3-4-5 for 11 pts which ties them with the Philadelphia flyers and puts them only 3 pts behind the 3rd place NJ Devils. In their last 4 games the Islanders are 2-0-2 which is good for 6 pts. They host the Buffalo Sabre's tomorrow night on Halloween at the Nassau Colliseum.

Neilson No 51, with Sean Bergenheim

KNICKS: I had high hopes for this game and they were dashed early, VERY EARLY being down 32-13 after one. Some how though the Knickerbockers were able to come back with great 3pt shooting and solid defense. As the game would go into overtime. Danillo Gallinari had a pretty decent look as time expired for the attempt to win the game. Nate and Gallinari played well off the bench scoring 17 and 16 respectively. David Lee put up his first of what will be many double doubles as he score 17 and snagged 18 boards. Chris Duhon would score 13 with 8 asts  The end of the 1st OT seemed doomed from the start as a near back court violation along with a turnover with a few seconds left would prime the Bobcats for a potential game winning shot, but it was missed and we would head to our 2nd OT session. Charlotte would take an early lead but Gallinari would lead them back. Duhon would tie it up late but Al Harrington's foul of DJ Augustein with less then 3 seconds left would seal the game for the Bobcats. This was truely a heart breaker. Knicks fall to 0-2

WORK INTERACTIONS

The intro to this involves my work. I am employed as a driver and I make deliveries for UPS. Interactions happen at each stop and I would like to dissect the types of interactions encountered each day.

Male To Male: Two dicks. No Vagina! NEVER GOOD! You can tell a dude to dude interaction because it is always mono-toned and well mannered. If you receive packages all day (Not a teabag joke) you run into guy after guy after guy! It's like a delivery gangbang except there is lots of sore buttholes. It's like the awkward one night stand of the interaction world. Two strangers meet briefly, conduct business, then one leaves disappointed.
Male to Female: A relationship is formed through constant interaction. I feel like a whore flirting with each gracious secretary that comes along but it must be done. 5 minutes at a time goes a long way. The conversation is pleasant and kind unlike the male. It has some sincerity to it on each end. Its like the one night stand but the call two days later.
Female to Female: Two catty bitches. When walks in the door they are instantly judge my their swagger and dress. It's simple woman hate other woman who look better than them but they will play nice to get their way. Its like the pack of wolves that get along during the hunt just to eat.

Halloween EVE SPORTS Crazyness... and FONZIE!

Can a minor league team beat a pro team??
I think NOT.

As we near the halfway point of the NFL season, there is a slew of really bad NFL teams stinking up the joint. The 0-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers obviously qualify. That means it's time for a bunch of delusional people to start making claims about how so-and-so could beat the Bucs. You know, college teams, "my rec league team," high school teams and, of course, UFL teams. Usually these claims are tongue-in-cheek, but Tatum Bell of the UFL's Florida Tuskers seems pretty serious.  Michael Pittman, a running back for the Tuskers who used to play for the Bucs, said something about how some of his teammates probably thought they could beat the Bucs. Bell immediately said he was one of them. When given a hypothetical score of 24-14 (Tuskers over Bucs), Bell went a bit too far.
"That's how much credit you give our defense?" Bell said, smiling. "I see more than that. I see our offense putting up more than that and I see our defense shutting them down for less than that."
Of course you guys could, Tatum. That's why you are playing in the UFL, not the NFL, right? By choice? It's good to be confident, but sometimes a little reality check would work.

Brandon Jennings.... The ANTI Antoine Walker
GOOD
After signing his rookie National Basketball Association contract worth nearly $4.5 million with the Milwaukee Bucks, Brandon Jennings could have walked into any dealership showroom in the city and driven away in something that said he'd arrived. BMW 7-Series. Cadillac Escalade. Lexus LS600H. Mercedes-Benz S-Class. None of those would do. So Jennings is the proud new owner of a . . .
. . . Ford Edge. Starting MSRP: $26,900.
"I probably saved $40,000," Jennings says proudly. "And who knows with the league? There might be a lockout in a couple years. I'm saving my money." Before you get the idea that Jennings is squarer than Scott Skiles' jaw, he laughs and adds, "It's a brand new car. It's a 2010. Hey, I fixed it up a little bit. I put some rims on it and tinted the windows."
Jennings also could have picked anywhere to live in metropolitan Milwaukee. Mequon. River Hills. A downtown condo, perhaps? Not good enough. The kid from Compton, Calif., one of the most dangerous cities in the United States, is living in the working-class bedroom community of St. Francis. Why? It's just a half-mile walk to the Bucks' practice facility at the Cousins Center. And he's got a great view of Lake Michigan. Jennings, a 20-year-old point guard who didn't play college basketball and was just 19 when the Bucks made him the 10th pick in the NBA draft, is pretty level-headed. Not that he hasn't had his share of youthful indiscretions. Calling Spanish sensation Ricky Rubio "all hype" might be a valid opinion, but not one best shared in public. Then there was the obscenity-laced blog cam conversation Jennings had with a rapper friend - the player thought it was private - that showed up on YouTube, much to his chagrin.

Walker was arrested earlier this year at a Harrah's Tahoe cabaret bar in Lake Tahoe on criminal charges stemming from $822,500 in gambling debts in Las Vegas. Walker, who last played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2008, was released after posting $135,000 cash bail following his arrest

Its still sweet to post this. I may keep doing it too.
