ALCS Game 6 PREVIEW

Chone Figgins and the Los Angeles Angels know they're heading straight into more than one kind of storm, and they can't wait to get wet. Heavy showers in Saturday's New York forecast are threatening to wash out Game 6 of the AL championship series, yet that's a minor drizzle compared to the high-pressure system the Angels created for both themselves and the Yankees by extending the ALCS to the weekend.
Rejuvenated by a ramshackle win in Game 5 that cut the Yankees' series lead to 3-2, the Angels still face long odds to make the seldom-seen comeback from a 3-1 series deficit against their star-studded opponents. Yet Figgins still senses a team-wide confidence that the Angels can rain on the Yankees' 27th championship parade. "It doesn't get any better than this, especially going into that ballpark," said Figgins, the Angels' leadoff hitter. "It's going to be another crazy game, I can tell you that. You go back and just enjoy it. The pressure is on both teams." The Yankees arrived back in New York early Friday morning and held an "optional" workout -- "In the playoffs, it's not optional," catcher Jorge Posada said with a grin -- under an overcast sky in the Bronx that afternoon. A chilly wind rippled the flags that line the top of the stadium and jostled the ceremonial red-white-and-blue bunting along each deck.
It was a much different scene than the picturesque weather they had in Southern California, and they still were thrilled to be back.
"Our guys feel very good when we walk in this ballpark," manager Joe Girardi said.
The Angels were grateful to show up to work Friday in suits instead of sweats, holding a brief workout before flying to New York.
I'm going to cut to the chase. Yankees need to do a few things to become victorious today.

  • Andy Pettitte, must get a "quality start" aka get into the 7th inning
  • How will the weather effect todays contest.
  • Joe Girardi should sit this game out and let Pena manage, OR go with what got you their with the bull pen. If their's a lead we better see Joba and Hughes... but on a short leash.
  • Make em pay for Free passes, aka Intentional Walks.
  • Bench Nick Swisher (.103 BA), Start Brett Gardner in CF and Melky in RF. OR Swisher better start hitting.
  • Get the ball to MO, who hasn't given up a run this post season in over 8 innings.
  • Don't let Figgins or Aybar run havoc on the bases.
  • What ever manager makes the least amount of mistakes.
  • The team who favors the most from the Umps bad calls.

Was the Pigeon on Field Was Spirit of Marquis Cooper? Justin Fargas thinks so.

During Sunday's Eagles-Raiders game, a pigeon went onto the field, stopped briefly near where the Raiders were lining up for a kickoff, and then flew downfield in the same direction as the Raiders' coverage unit. It made for a funny viral video, but one Oakland player, Justin Fargas, thinks it was much more: he thinks the pigeon was the reincarnation of deceased ex-Raider Marquis Cooper.
Cooper and former DET. Lions D-End Corey Smith died in a boating accident in February.  The former 1,000 yard rusher Fargas said in a radio interview this week that he thinks Cooper may have come back to Oakland in the form of that pigeon.
All I have to say is that if he feels that then so be it, let him think that and Good Luck. If they win this weekend vs my beloved Jets which I hope they don't, then the Pigeon is coinsidence. BUT, if the pigeon is back then thats a little freaky.

Watch the FULL video.

Jets to wear Titans road "throwbacks"

This Sunday when the Jets visit the "black hole" in Oakland they will be wearing their New York Titans road Jerseys. The Raiders will also wear their "throwbacks" as well. This is the 50th anniversary of the AFL which the Jets and Raiders once belonged too. This is the first time fans will see these jerseys during game play. The home blue Titans Jerseys have been used for the past 3 years.
(Scott, Cotchery, Rhodes, Keller, Revis and Fergueson)

& of course the ref's will also be wearing their "throwbacks"

ewwwwwwww

LETS GO YANKEES

Lebron James .... I guess hates Dubya.... who woulda thought?

Lebron James was asked in a recent interview; Who in the world would you want to dunk on. He didnt mention anyone in the NBA or even professional sports. Instead he said,
"If it doesn't have to be a basketball player, George W. Bush. I would dunk on his ass, break the rim, and shatter the glass."
Come ON Lebron, grow up. Okay he maybe one of the most hated men in the World, but he didnt stop you from making any money or playing your sport. He hasn't been in office for over a year so im sure you could of thought of a less controversial dunkee then W but, you are the king. lol So do what you'd like.

ALCS Games 5 Recap

Joe Girardi... YET AGAIN
shows that he cannot manage at this level

Burnett looks like cow dong to start the game off. Four Hits and four runs before the first out. Looks like it could be a rough night. I said to Rob Luckett "why arent they warming anyone up, Torre would of had some one up already" then I said "well maybe he can get hot and settle down and go deep into the game" and he did. He pitched well after those first four runs. The Yankees well....... didn't look good at all. Until the 7th inning, then they exploded for 6 runs to take the lead. Up 6-4 they Girardi for some f-ing reason decides to leave Burnett in after a long lay over from the previous inning... WHAT WHY?? EXPLAIN TO ME NOW. HE GOT YOU THAT FAR TAKE HIM OUT. But Girardi being the bum he is left him in the game and the game was down hill and lost from their.

Player of the Game: Kendry Morales Torii Hunter and Vlad Guerrero 2 RBI each
Play of the Game: Girardi bringing in Phil Hughes in the 7th leading to the Morales Rbi single
Goat of the Game: NICK SWISHER WHO LOOKS LOST, AND A BUM AND SHOULD BE BENCHED...PHIL HUGHES LOOKS REAL BAD TOO... AND OF COURSE JOE GIRARDI who will have em out their again on saturday.

Fan Goat of the Game: Mildred Luckett - While at Robs house his grandmother Stated "time to celebrate boys" then included a slight shimmy movement moments before the Yankees took the field, then Burnett gave up a four run first inning. They came back but her jinx for the game was too much to overcome. Good thing about this jinx is that it was only for the night and has no carry over what so ever to the next day. It will always be known as the game 5 Curse of Grand Ma Ma Milly. .

Would you want a Scums boxers? Well their for sale.

Don't feel like being a normal collector? Well here you go, its for chance to own a Jonathan Papelbon aka Papelbitch's undergarmets from a recent game. All I can say is that I hope this money for this shit goes to charity i mean this is pathetic. If i had to guess what city in the country would pull a stunt like this....... of course it would be boston. You would never see a Yankees player do such a stupid stunt like this, this is pure BS. Have respect for your sport and you self, oh wait i forgot your Johnathan Papelbon

Ohhhh Duke

(Picture taken directly from the Duke Basketball Twitter Page)
Duke Basketball is back at it again. The promotional poster for the upcoming 2009-2010 season is pretty G but for basketball... well I don't know about that. I do think Jon Scheyer (sitting middle) does look pretty gangsta with his arms crossed seems like he's some sort of "Lower Boss". What about the Goon sitting at the table on the left (I think its Brian Zoubeck), he's definitely that hit man that everyone makes fun of behind their backs cause he can be a bit of a doof. Every "crew" needs a satanic worshiper too, that role goes to the African American gentleman standing to the far right. Also at the table sitting to the left is Kyle Singler, he seems like that guy that talks a big game but won't pull the trigger when needed, probably a snitch too. They better check him for wires. My Question is where is the "don" " the upper boss" "the head guy", where is coach K? I think this would of been really good if Coach K was in the middle wearing a fedora with a scarf on.

Now that Lil Wayne is goin to jail whos going to provide the music for Middle School Dances?

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted possession of a weapon in the second degree this morning in a New York courtroom; the plea bargain carries a sentence of up to a year in prison. Wayne had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges, which were filed after the NYPD found a .40 caliber handgun on Wayne’s tour bus in July 2007. But after the court ruled that DNA evidence found on the gun would be admissible — evidence obtained by techniques Wayne’s lawyer Stacey Richman has called problematic — Wayne opted to take the plea bargain, AllHipHop reports. If Wayne was found guilty following the trial, which was set for January 2010, the charges carried a three-and-a-half year sentence.
Neither Lil Wayne nor his representatives have released any statements as of press time, and when the Grammy winner left court this morning he said only “What’s up?” to waiting reporters. According to TMZ, cops searched Wayne’s tour bus after they detected the aroma of marijuana following his show at the Beacon Theatre. When police approached the bus, Wayne allegedly tossed a Louis Vuitton bag with the gun inside. It’s expected that Wayne will serve a sentence of eight months to a year, as the New York judicial system is usually tough on firearm violators, regardless of fame. Case in point: Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was sentenced to two years in September 2009 for possessing a gun at a nightclub.

Really Lil Wayne? I mean if T.I. is "dead and gone" im sure youll be fine too. I guess thats the new thing, to get locked up. Spend some time in jail, work out, write a little bit and get some more "cred". Then you'll drop another album after it and youll once again be golden. Im sure behind bars youll get a bunch of people referencing your "lollipop" song.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- When Derek Jeter recalls the last time the New York Yankees got this close to the World Series, he gets chills down his spine that have nothing to do with the cold he's fighting.
"If you have the opportunity to get something over with, you'd like to do it," the New York captain said. "It's not always going to happen."Although the Yankees have a strong record in potential closeout playoff games over their peerless history, the 2004 AL championship series is a prodigious hole in their reputation that only a record 40th AL pennant could begin to cover. Up 3-0, New York lost four straight to the Boston Red Sox in an unprecedented collapse, and the Yankees hadn't been that close to the World Series since -- until now. They get the first of three shots at a closeout victory over the struggling Angels in Game 5 of the ALCS on Thursday night, with A.J. Burnett facing Los Angeles ace John Lackey. After half a decade and several hundred million dollars' worth of premium free-agent shopping, most of the Yankees who have rolled through six wins in their first seven postseason games this fall don't share Jeter's memories of 2004.Manager Joe Girardi understands the history, but prefers to focus on the future."There's a lot of different faces," Girardi said. "You look at our rotation, CC (Sabathia) wasn't here, A.J. wasn't here. You look at the bullpen, and I believe Mo (Mariano Rivera) was the only guy that was here. It's a different scenario, but we understand who the Angels are."Before a light workout at sun-kissed Angel Stadium on Wednesday, Girardi and the Yankees were modest about their chances of getting that last win and steaming back onto baseball's biggest stage after a six-year absence. Their play in this postseason so far has done all their bragging for them. With big-money newcomers Sabathia and Burnett joining Andy Pettitte in a dynamite three-man rotation, backed by 2004 survivor Alex Rodriguez leading the offense, the current Yankees have shown no indication of slowing down. After they missed the playoffs last fall for the first time in Jeter's era, the Yankees have racked up baseball's best record before rolling to the brink of a pennant against the Angels, who were second-best behind New York in the regular-season standings as well."Well, any time you can add the top three free agents, it's going to be better," outfielder Johnny Damon deadpanned. "(Sabathia, Burnett and Mark Teixeira) took us from missing the playoffs by six games last year to being pretty dominant."The Yankees have held a 3-1 lead in an ALCS six times since Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte and Jorge Posada joined the roster in the mid-1990s. New York closed it out immediately three times, waited for the sixth game once -- and then there was 2004.
But these Yankees are well positioned to capitalize on their three chances to finish off Los Angeles. Nothing in the ALCS to date suggests the Yankees' pitchers will have much trouble with the Angels, whose normally productive lineup is batting .201 against New York. After a 10-1 rout in Game 4, it's also tough to imagine New York's sluggers slowing down. Rodriguez, Jeter and Posada are in the midst of outstanding postseasons, and the Yankees have 14 homers among their 67 hits in seven playoff games."It's like every day, you're looking to somebody to your right or left and saying, 'Do you believe this guy?" Burnett said. "'I mean, have you ever seen a guy like this guy?' That's a handful of guys on this team. I've played with some good players, but it's like the guys on this squad, when the stage gets bigger and the situation gets bigger, they perform better. It never ceases to amaze me what can happen."Six of 28 teams in the Angels' position have rallied from a 3-1 deficit in a league championship series -- most recently in 2007, when the Boston Red Sox came back against Sabathia and Cleveland on the way to a title. Including the World Series, 11 of 69 teams that fell into a 3-1 hole have made the comeback."The mountain is big, period," Angels outfielder Torii Hunter said. "But we know baseball can turn around at any time. ... We've been wanting that since our first game (against the Yankees). We haven't quite got there yet, but it's getting late. That bell is about to ring, so it's time to get it done."Pitching hasn't been the Angels' biggest woe, even given the Yankees' 10-run outburst in Game 3, which only got out of hand in the late innings. Los Angeles can't hit against the Yankees, scraping the Mendoza Line while scoring just 10 runs in the series' 42 innings."We're trying to do too much with runners in scoring position," said Bobby Abreu, who's batting .125 against his former team. "We're trying to drive in runs no matter what, and sometimes we swing at bad pitches. Tomorrow is a tough situation for us."Burnett is still looking for his first playoff victory despite pitching fairly well in his last two starts. He got a no-decision in Game 2 despite allowing just three hits and two runs while pitching into the seventh inning of a contest that eventually went 310 minutes and 13 innings."This is why I signed -- the opportunity to pitch in the postseason," said Burnett, who never pitched in the playoffs for Florida or Toronto. "The first year over here, I have an opportunity, so I'm taking full advantage of it."

                 Keys to the game
  • Take advantage early and often
  • Don't Let Kendrick beat ya
  • Keep Figgins and Abreu out of the Box Score
  • Start Posada at DH tonight and bench Matsui
  • Keep Jeter, Posada and A-Rod hot
  • Burnett must go 7 to Setup the Monsters of the Bull Pen
My Pick for Tonight's Game
Yankees 5- Angels 4 F/10

Timing is everything... well not to ESPN

Pieces from this article have been taken from espn.com's new ombudsman Dan Ohlmeyer

ESPN's "College Football GameDay" kicks off festivities on Saturdays in the fall. It's a well produced examination of the day's key matchups, with informative features and pertinent interviews. The knowledgeable, amiable hosts dispense facts, insights and opinions live from campuses around the country, while capturing the excitement and enthusiasm that surrounds the games. The Oct. 17 telecast preceded the Texas-Oklahoma game and was hosted from a set on the sidelines in the Cotton Bowl. While a celebrity guest provided his predictions for the day's game, the band -- no more than 50 feet away -- was playing "The Star-Spangled Banner." No one on the set seemed fazed by this. But the viewers who wrote expressed anger and outrage over what they perceived to be blatant disrespect for the national anthem and a profoundly unpatriotic act. Evidently, there was no embarrassment or contrition on ESPN's part, as that night's "SportsCenter" replayed a clip from the interview with the anthem as its musical accompaniment.
There was a time when there was universal respect, even a reverence, for "The Star-Spangled Banner." It has long been standard operating procedure for sports telecasts to either present the anthem in its entirety, or take great care to show a commercial or some other prerecorded material instead. In another era it was ingrained into production teams that, when trapped by a surprise playing of the anthem, all would respectfully rise to their feet and fall silent, even during rehearsal. Proper conduct, according to U.S. Code (Title 36/Chapter 10, Patriotic Customs), is as follows: "During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in [military] uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart." Disregard for "The Star-Spangled Banner" is becoming more common. It has happened previously on ESPN and on other networks. Viewers write about their perception of ESPN and announcer "arrogance." Perhaps GameDay's reaction to the anthem exemplifies some of the behavior that engenders that feeling. The implicit message the audience hears is a not-so-subtle "the importance of what we're saying right now far outweighs your quaint patriotic custom." In speaking with ESPN representatives, we learned that the anthem was played 2 minutes earlier than scheduled, catching the production team and announcers off guard. Their reaction was inaction. The "SportsCenter" clip can only be explained as a lack of attention to detail. Said Mark Gross, ESPN's released a statement : "None of this should have happened. There are no excuses. It's embarrassing, and we apologize. Now we have to make sure it never happens again."
I agree that this was outragous. In no way shape for form should ESPN have timed this episode so poorly that it should of came to this. What are the "guys in the truck" doing. It was embarassing that they disrespected the American Anthem this way for selecting game picks.

Another lame NLCS

Even losers know the scent of victory.
In a must win game 5 yesterday it seemed that the Dodgers rolled over and die. This series had 2 good games, 2 blow outs and a game that the Dodgers shouldn't of won. Basically it could of been a 4 game sweep if not for Chase Utley's error in game 2. So here it is again another 5 game victory for the Phillies over the Dodgers in the NLCS, for the 2nd straight year.
In a somber clubhouse Wednesday night, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp -- eyes reddened with tears of sadness -- began to smell champagne on the clothes of several reporters who had first been in the Philadelphia Phillies clubhouse. He had continued to speak to reporters, until the scent, and what it represented, was too strong and he had to stop mid-sentence. Soon after, Kemp smiled for the first time.
With a core of players who are in their mid-20s, the Dodgers will surely continue to contend for several more years, yet the sting of a second consecutive NLCS loss -- this time with a 10-4 defeat in Game 5 -- to the Phillies was too great for many of those players to take. For several moments, catcher Russell Martin sat slumped in his chair and could hardly say a word. Others dressed slowly and deliberately. Veterans such as Mark Loretta and Brad Ausmus -- who likely may have had their last legitimate chance at a championship -- were somber. For many Dodgers, last year's postseason had been a surprise. This season they expected more. The Dodgers, for all their worries about Manny Ramirez's suspension and their late-season collapse, were in first place for all but 12 days this season. Los Angeles looked formidable in sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in the Division Series.
There will be questions about Ramirez and whether he is the slugger who carried the team into the 2008 postseason, or the aged and shamed slugger who was suspended for using performance-enhancing drugs this season and could barely muster four extra-base hits in two playoff series. Ramirez's home run in Game 1 against Philadelphia was his only extra-base hit of the NLCS.
"I feel empty right now," Ramirez said. Philadelphia fans mercilessly booed and taunted Ramirez with chants of "Take a shower" in reference to Ramirez's much-publicized admission that he had been in the Dodgers' clubhouse during Game 4 when Jimmy Rollins struck his game-winning double against Los Angeles closer Jonathan Broxton.
Ryan Howard would take home the NLCS MVP. With 2 HRs, 8 RBIs and batting .385. Phillies became the first team to reach consecutive World Series since the New York Yankees in 2000-01.

I thought that this year we were ready to do something big," Kemp said.

The Phillies wait for the winner of the American League.
The Yankees play game 5 tonight in LA, New York is winning the best of 7 series so far 3 games to 1.

9 Year Anniversary of the 2000 Subway World Series

Yankees vs. Mets 2000 World Series

It started with Timo Perez not hustling and it ended with Luis Sojo. In between the Yankees had their streak of 14 straight World Series wins broken, a broken bat and a toss of it, home runs and questionable calls. It was a close series, much closer then the record would tell you considering the Mets easily could of won game 1, they were shut down in game 2 but came back to with in 1 run. To all fans though, was their any doubt that the Yankees would win the series... just wondering

I just dont get some Broads

Okay well girls are all different. Some girls try to show off what makes them different from others. Such ass showing off their chest, tight jeans, high heals, doing their hair or make up. I mean its very rare to see a single female just plain give up and not care about themselves. Well i thought that until today. Just cause its nice out doesn't give you permission to become an honorary bum and sleep on newspaper in the Brooklyn College Quad. Does she feel that people are going to find her cool and fun especially when she has to get up and clean up her bed newspaper

Sleeping in the quad on a perfectly good Daily News is just plain wrong. Filip Bondy would not approve
I am discusted, I mean go find a subway or a play ground to be a bum u dirtbag. LOL

(the title does not express the view points of the author)

Really Steve Phillips? An affair is one thing but this is just cruel, unusual and just plain bestiality. Actually how about GROSS. This chick is a total mutant, and thats being rather nice. I don’t have the highest standards in the world either but I’m also not a former major league general manager (for the NY Mets) and a TV personality every night on ESPN's Baseball Tonight. Is she the only female production assistant at ESPN, I mean COME ON? This doesn’t say much about your wife either if this is what you sneak around at night with. As a Mets fan this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise though. If you think this dog is worth your career and family I can sort of understand what made you think Mo Vaughn, Roger Cedeno, Jeremey Burnitz, and Robbie Alomar were a good core to build around. The bombshell developments come 11 years after Phillips took a brief leave of absence as the Mets’ GM after admitting to having sex with a team employee
