Here we go again with the MTA. Today Transit workers will hold protest rallies today while officals and yes US THE RIDERS will prepare for more problems then usual. Their union the Local 100 has declared today a day of Outrage over the refusal by the MTA to award the apporved pay raises from this past August. The unions website urged the workers to give em hell! and to "slow it down". The panel awarded par-rate raises to a little under 11% over the next 3 years. I realized this to the fullest degree today.
When I arrived today in Brooklyn at Atlantic Avenue LIRR train station I made my way toward the subway. I saw the Express #5 train and made a dash for it. I was able to get to it on time. My reasoning is because the express skips some stops and by way of that is faster to my destination, a destination that takes about 15-17 minutes to reach. Well today was different. Instead of it taking 17 minutes it took 47 minutes. YES 47 MINUTES. Thats not a joke, a lie or an exaggeration. It took almost an hour to go the distance that usually takes no more then 20. As I sat on the subway I started talking to a gentleman who was a student like me who was heading for the same destination. He was worried that he would be late for his mid term which he was. I mentioned to him that i heard about this "day of outrage" and it made him I and other straphangers sick to our stomach.
So thats what we are to the MTA and its employees, Leverage. The loyal paying customers who keep coming back, especially since service recently has declined more then the XFL once did. We get screwed out of our time and calm thinking because these assholes won't pay out an agreed amount. The workers on the other hand are also to blame. Unlike a strike that was once taken years ago they decide against it leaving the commuters at their mercy. I felt bad for this guy we arrived to the station 7 minutes after his midterm began, when yesterday he would of been to his class 15 minutes earlier.
Basically Grow up and leave us out of this. If their is beef which their obviously is, settle it on your own and leave the commuters out of it.
