It all started with Alex Rodriguez admission of using PEDs and he was placed on the cover of SI for doing so. He would have a shortened season partly due to recovery from Hip Surgery but still would play 124 games, batting .286 with an OBP of .402 but hitting 30 HRs and 100 RBIs. Great Power numbers for some one who missed 38 full games. His post season numbers deserved to be from Neptune... he was from another planet. 15 games, 52 ABs, 15 Runs, with an incredible 6 HRs and 18 RBIs while batting a cool . 365 with a .500 OBP his OPS was 1.308 which is off the chart.
Besides the horrendous prediction of the METS! Look who's on the cover of the Baseball Preview... Its ALCS MVP CC Sabathia. This could be a step in the right direction to breaking the SI Cover jinx. Previous Athletes have fallen hard either through poor play or injury. CC this year showed us differently. CC in the Regular season started 34 games pitching 230 innings. He would win 19 games striking out almost 200 with a stellar ERA of 3.37. In the Post season: 5 Stars, 36 innings, 32 K's with a 1.98 ERA... DAMN SON If their could of possibly been doubt about my claims, well here is the break in the case... The BIG Piece of Evidence. Its Mariano Rivera on the Cover of SI, right before the 2009 MLB Post Season Started. Rivera in Baseball's second season pitched 12 games logging 16 innings. Struck out 14 and allowed less then a base runner an inning. His ERA was.56 only giving up 1 run in the ALCS. He also had shutdown play in the Fall classic.
Their may possibly be a SI Cover jinx, people like myself do believe in it but This season the Yankees were obviously immuned to it.
Yes they were, although ya can't say the same for the most recent team to grace the cover of SI...The Iowa Hawkeyes.
